Ogunquit Beach seen from the Marginal Way
Known for its pristine beaches, Ogunquit provides visitors with the most accessible and stunning beach in Southern Maine. From Main Beach to Footbridge to North Beach, there are three miles of white sand and Atlantic waters where visitors love to walk, sunbathe, swim, surf, fly kites, do yoga, and enjoy life.
TripAdvisor’s Travelers Choice/Best of the Best has awarded Ogunquit as having one of the top 25 beaches in the U.S. for the past four years!
Ogunquit Beach is also a protected habitat for the endangered piping plovers, so despite being dog lovers, dogs aren’t allowed on the beaches from April 1st to September 9th.
Tips for Visiting Ogunquit Beach
- Check the tides: At low tide, the beach expands into a wide stretch of sand — perfect for walking, playing games, or finding a quiet spot. At high tide, space can be limited, especially at Main Beach.
- Arrive early in peak season: Parking lots and beach space fill up quickly on sunny summer days, so getting there early ensures a more relaxed experience.
- Bring sun protection: There’s little natural shade, so pack sunscreen, a beach umbrella, and plenty of water.
- Plan for accessibility: Main Beach has the easiest access for strollers, wheelchairs, and families with gear. Footbridge and North Beach require a bit more walking.
- Pack light snacks or grab local eats: Ogunquit has plenty of nearby cafés, ice cream shops, and restaurants within walking distance of the beach. If your looking for any ideas. Take a look at our Ogunquit Dining Guide (available online) to view some of the best menu's in town!
- Respect wildlife and rules: Help protect the piping plovers and keep the beach clean by following posted guidelines and carrying out your trash.
- Enjoy the evenings: Sunsets over Ogunquit Beach are breathtaking, and the cooler evening air makes it a wonderful time for a stroll.
